Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus is one of two core tree crops we offer to our partner farmers. We have chosen to plant a clonal hybrid variety – Eucalyptus grandis x camaldulensis (GC) – that is uniquely suited to the needs of our farmers and their semi-arid environments. Created using traditional breeding techniques and not genetic modification, the Eucalyptus GC used by KOMAZA farmers is ecologically appropriate, fast-growing, drought-resistant and will provide substantial income to our farmers.

  • Specially bred for semi-arid land
  • Drought-tolerant
  • High timber yields in low-quality soils
  • Fast-growing: 3 – 12 years to mature
  • Pest-resistant for easy maintenance
  • Straight trunks and self-pruning braches for high-quality wood
  • Highly profitable

While other Eucalyptus species have garnered a negative reputation, drought-resistant species – like those we plant – have incredible environmental and economic potential. To futher ensure positive environmental outcomes, we maintain stringent planting criteria, conduct careful site selection and have undergone independent environmental assessments of our work.
